Who are we?
We are Matt & Gerry
The Durham-Hythe Experience was created by Gerry Coates and Matt Bruce as an alternative to the traditional vacation rental. In 2013, Gerry and Matts chance meeting in Mykonos, Greece, blossomed into a romance and a mutual passion for extraordinary travel experiences. Their global journeys exposed them to what truly elevates a vacation rental from ordinary to exceptional. Drawing on their expertise in construction, interior design, and clinical psychology, they founded a luxury vacation rental and events company dedicated to crafting unparalleled experiences. Every property and event they design is a testament to their commitment to surpassing expectations and creating unforgettable moments.
The story behind Durham-Hythe
This is Mable Coates (left) and Sylvie Bruce (right), our mothers and inspiration behind the company name. Mable was born in Durham, North Carolina, and Sylvie was born in Hythe, England. While the homes they raised us in were modest, our experience of their love and care was extraordinary.
Durham-Hythe over the years...
Over the years, Durham-Hythe has been more than just a collection of properties—it has been the heart of countless memories for our family. From the early days of designing and constructing these spaces to hosting intimate gatherings and creating lifelong moments, this journey has been one of love and passion. Each photo in this gallery captures a chapter in our story, reflecting our dream of creating a place where others can experience the same joy and connection we have built here.
